London 2012: Two Year Countdown Begins on July 27th

As my beloved Spain basks in the glory of its first-ever FIFA World Cup victory and the rest of the world recovers from the omnipresent vuvuzelas – Visa’s global sponsorship marketing team is already hard at work preparing for the next global sponsorship. Tuesday, July 27 marks the two-year countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games – and for global marketers like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and, I’m proud to say, Visa, these sponsorships are truly a marathon.

Brazil Development Bank Turns to Visa to Help Deliver Business Loans to Small-Enterprises

Opening a small business is a leap of faith. Making it successful is usually much more prosaic and involves a lot of time, energy and, often, frustration. Securing a loan to help buy equipment and services can often be the rock on which small businesses perish. To that end, the Brazilian government is financing low-interest loans to help small businesses grow and succeed, for the simple reason that micro- and small-enterprises employ 6 out of 10 workers there. The government-run Brazil Development Bank (BNDES) turned to Visa to help deliver these loans quickly and conveniently.

More Landlords Accepting Visa For Rent, Benefiting Renters And Themselves

Today, NPR is reporting that more positive attitudes toward renting by government and home-seekers and the falling homeownership rate in the U.S. may boost the rental market. As more Americans decide to rent rather than buy, more and more landlords and property management companies are accepting digital payment for rent – one of the last payments that many renters or consumers still have to pay by check.

Migration Watch – Payments on the go

If you’re like me, you’re probably looking forward to the day when the cup holders in your car can be used to hold cups instead of quarters, nickels and dimes, and a trip across a local bridge doesn’t have to include a stop at the drugstore to get cash back.

Visa Reaching Out to the Financially Underserved

Yesterday, Visa announced a new integrated marketing campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of reloadable Visa prepaid debit cards for financially underserved consumers.

Prepaid has been the fastest growing form of payment at Visa for several years, and within the prepaid category, those products meeting the needs of the underserved – which we consider reloadable prepaid debit cards as well as payroll and government disbursement cards – have shown some of the most growth.

Utilities Seeing Benefits of Card Acceptance

Today, PaymentsSource reported that online bill payment continues to grow faster than all other consumer payment methods. Visa has recognized this trend for many years and has actively worked with billers across many industries, including utilities, to expand and facilitate card acceptance to benefit utilities and cardholders alike.

Our work is paying off, as thousands of utilities around the U.S. currently accept Visa for bill payment, and Chartwell reported that card acceptance by utilities increased significantly during the past decade (Chartwell report).

Migration Watch: Newspaper Vending Machines Shift to Plastic

When is the last time you happened to have eight quarters in your pocket? It’s probably been a while – like when you carried your tooth fairy money around for a rainy day or when you knew you were heading to a Laundromat that only accepted quarters. Well, this is the exact point made by the VP for circulation at The Wall Street Journal when asked about the company’s recent decision to add payment card readers to 190 newspaper vending machines in the New York area. See the full story here.
